About The Department

Overview

Denny ChimesFounded in 1963, the American Studies department at The University of Alabama is the largest such department in the Deep South. Through community outreach, internships, campus projects, and educational lecture series, we’re a vital part of the dynamic cultural offerings in surrounding communities and across the state.

Our faculty members offer courses in the fall, spring, and summer terms. Departmental research is divided into seven subfields, making our department a truly diversified and engaging group.

We are located on the first floor of the ten Hoor building in the northwest area of campus, and we invite you to drop by to learn more about us.
