Elizabeth Meese Memorial Award in Feminist Theory

Congratulations to Athena F. Richardson, a second-year Masters student and Graduate Teaching Assistant, for winning the Elizabeth Meese Memorial Award in Feminist Theory. The honor came from the 2018 Annual Paper Competition sponsored by the Department of Gender and Race Studies.

Athena’s paper is titled “There Is a Balm: Performance, Voyeurism, and Public History through Beyoncé’s Lemonade.” She uses Lemonade to examine the multi-generational experiences of black women in New Orleans tourism history, and the role that public history and tourist sites can serve to provide healing to black women visitors.
